Year Two Lego Robotics
Year Two had an amazing time on Monday learning how to programme with Lego Robotics. We made Lego models and then programmed them using computer software. Our models could rotate, light up and some of them even sounded like helicopters!
Junior Stem Days
All our children have enjoyed the STEM days and I am so impressed with their knowledge.
I have really enjoyed listening to the children tell me about what they have done and what they have learned.
Nick, from Junior STEM, said how well behaved all our children were and how impressed he was…
Lego Robotics
Today we have had lots of fun in our Lego Robotics workshop. Nick, from Junior STEM, showed us the Lego we would be using to construct a model and then we applied our knowledge of algorithms and programming to programme, monitor and control our crocodiles. We all learnt a lot and managed to debug…
Year 5 Junior Stem Session
Sycamore Class have had a great morning with the Junior Stem Robotics workshop. Initally they built a basic structure and had to program it to move using a simple algorithm. Once the children had become accustomed to the equipment, they were set a challenge to create a moving monster. The…
Year 4 - Stem Workshop
Today year four enjoyed a workshop carried out by Junior STEM Primary Robotics.
The skills they had to cover were:
- identify lego pieces
- use engineering skills to build a Merry-Go-Round out of Lego.
- use programming skills to write an algorithm to control the Merry-Go-Round
- use…
Year 3 Junior STEM Workshop
Today year three enjoyed a workshop carried out by Junior STEM Primary Robotics. At first they were introduced to the STEM robotic kits and asked to build a basic structure. The pupils were then asked to program a simple algorithm to make it move (clockwise and anti- clockwise), change colour, add…
Lesson 1 on our Glockenspiels
On Wednesday, we had our first music lesson with our glockenspiels. We enjoyed learning the notes and played the note 'E' along to the music.
Designing Dream Catchers
As part of our DT curriculum, we looked at, designed and began to make our dream catchers. We will complete our dream catchers next week.
Catapults
Year 5 had great fun on Wednesday and Thursday with their DT project. They worked in groups to plan a design for a catapult, thinking carefully about how they were going to join their materials. The children then spent Thursday afternoon constructing their designs. There was lots of great…
Outdoor DT in Year Two.
During Outdoor Week, Year Two have been studying the art work of Andy Goldsworthy. We will be using our designs to create a structural piece of art work that we will need to shape and join together. We observed our outdoor environment and made sketches to support our ideas.
Making Roly-Poly Birds!
This week Year 3 have been improving our DT skills. Initially in the week lots of children struggled to use scissors to be able to cut accurately. We made Roly-Poly birds from ‘The Twits’ story to practise and get better at cutting accurately. We used PVA glue and tearing of tissue paper to put…
D.T Challenge
After researching sustainable energy and how the charity Practical Action help the people of Peru, we designed our own wind turbine. The criteria was to design and make a wind turbine that would create enough energy to lift a weight. The pupils worked in teams and had lots of iterative ideas…
