Reception class have been developing their fine motor skills through a fun and practical cooking activity. The children made their own egg and cress sandwiches using cress they had grown themselves in class.

The activity gave the children lots of opportunities to practise important skills such as peeling, cutting, chopping and spreading butter. They worked carefully and safely, using their hands to strengthen finger muscles and improve control, while also following simple instructions.

The children were very proud to use the cress they had grown from seeds, linking the activity to their learning about plants and where food comes from. Best of all, they enjoyed tasting their delicious sandwiches at the end! We were so proud that everyone had a little taste of their sandwich even if they didn't like it. However some of the children LOVED their sandwich and ate the whole thing!!
