Reception class have been busy exploring ice as part of their learning about Antarctica and cold places. The children began by talking about melting and states of matter, learning that ice is a solid and turns into a liquid when it melts. We then looked back at some of our icy days at school and discussed how cold weather can make ice, just like in Antarctica.
The children carried out an exciting experiment to find out which ice cube would melt the quickest. They tested ice in salt, sugar, warm water, the fridge and even in their hands, making predictions and carefully observing what happened. There were lots of great discussions and new vocabulary used along the way.
After the experiment, the children enjoyed playing with the ice, continuing to explore and learn through hands-on fun. It was a fantastic afternoon of curiosity, investigation and discovery!
