Our Sustainability Team

We are proud to introduce our Sustainability Team, a whole-school initiative inspired by the Department for Education’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy. This national strategy calls on schools to lead the way in reducing environmental impact, embedding sustainability in education, and preparing young people to play their part in tackling climate change.

Meet the Team

  • Mrs Szalata – Sustainability Lead
Oversees the school’s sustainability vision and strategy, ensuring that our work aligns with the DfE’s priorities and that sustainability is embedded into both teaching and school life.

  • Mrs Carpenter – School Business Manager
Focuses on making the school’s operations more environmentally friendly, from energy efficiency and resource management to sustainable procurement.

  • Mr Holland – Site Supervisor
Plays a key role in maintaining and developing our school site in eco-friendly ways, ensuring that practical changes—such as waste reduction, recycling systems, and green spaces—are implemented effectively.

At our school, the Sustainability Team works to bring this vision to life. Together, staff, pupils, and our wider community are taking practical steps to make our school greener, healthier, and more environmentally responsible. Our work is guided by the DfE’s core themes of:

  • Climate Education – making sure sustainability is part of what we learn and teach every day.

  • Environmental Action – reducing waste, saving energy, and improving biodiversity around our school site.

  • Supporting Wellbeing – helping our pupils see how caring for the planet also supports healthier, happier lives.

Additionally, our school values are driven through our sustainability work by teaching pupils how to make a difference to our world and community.

Growing Our Team

We are committed to strengthening our Sustainability Team further, welcoming support from parents and carers, and ensuring we have the voice of a local governing body representative at the heart of our work.

Collaboration Across Our Trust

As part of the Aspirational Futures Multi Academy Trust, we are excited to collaborate with our local primary schools and high schools to share ideas, build joint projects, and create a united approach to sustainability. By working together, we can make a greater impact on our local community and support the DfE’s vision for a sustainable future.

Central to this is pupil voice. Our Eco Committee, which forms part of the School Parliament, ensures that children are actively involved in planning, decision-making, and leading projects. Whether it’s promoting recycling, running energy audits, or campaigning for more sustainable travel, our pupils are shaping the changes they want to see in school and beyond.

Climate Action Plan

In line with the DFE , we have cretaed a official document detailing the setting's efforts to address climate change and sustainability known as a Climate Action Plan

  • Climate Education: Preparing pupils with knowledge and skills to understand and respond to climate change.

  • Non Zero Targets: Reducing emissions from buildings and supporting pupils in the transition to net zero.

  • Resilience and Adaptation: Adapting buildings and systems to cope with the impacts of climate change, such as flooding and overheating.

  • A Better Environment: Enhancing biodiversity, improving air quality, and increasing nature connection for students.

Our Climate Action Plan is a working document that is updated and reviewed on a termly basis.  Click HERE for the most up-to-date version of our climate action plan.
